TURNOUT APPEARS HEAVY IN CARROLL COUNTY

RESULTS INDICATE VOTER TURNOUT WAS HEAVY TUESDAY AROUND CARROLL COUNTY AND IN WESTERN MAINE. CONWAY TOWN CLERK RHODA QUINT SAYS MORE THAN 5,100 OF THE TOWN’S ROUGHLY 6,300 VOTERS – JUST MORE THAN 80 PERCENT – TURNED OUT TO CAST BALLOTS AT KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL.

BURTON GOT 2,337 VOTES TO 1,313 VOTES FOR FUNICELLA. BRADLEY GOT 2,672 VOTES TO 1,453 VOTES FOR BALLARD. FOR STATE REP. THERE ARE NEARLY 4,900 REGISTERED VOTERS IN WOLFEBORO AND MORE THAN 4,300 OF THEM TURNED OUT TO VOTE.

IN MAINE, IN FRYEBURG – OBAMA GOT 920 VOTES TO 649 FOR ROMNEY, INDEPENDENT ANGUS KING GOT 888 VOTES FOR U.S. SENATOR WHILE REPUBLICAN CHARLIE SUMMERS GOT 440 AND DEMOCRAT CYNTHIA DILL 217. FOR U.S. HOUSE DISTRICT 2 DEMOCRAT MICHAEL MICHAUD GOT 906 VOTES AND REPUBLICAN KEVIN RAYE 654 VOTES. FOR MAINE SENATE DISTRICT 13, DEMOCRAT DENNISE WHITLEY GOT 754 VOTES WHILE REPUBLICAN JAMES HAMPER GOT 719 VOTES. FOR MAINE HOUSE DISTRICT 97 REPUBLICAN GEORGE CUNNINGHAM GOT 822 VOTES WHILE DEMOCRAT HELEN RANKIN GOT 757 VOTES. FOR OXFORD COUNTY REGISTER OF PROBATE, DEMOCRAT CAROL GUTEKUNST GOT 735 VOTES WHILE REPUBLICAN JENNIFER DILWORTH GOT 717 VOTES. AND FOR OXFORD COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT ONE REPUBLICAN STEVEN MERRILL GOT 746 VOTES WHILE DEMOCRAT CHARLEEN CHASE GOT 725 VOTES. ON THE QUESTIONS, QUESTION ONE – SAME SEX MARRIAGE – PASSED. QUESTION TWO, THE HIGHER EDUCATION BOND, WAS REJECTED. QUESTIONS THREE, FOUR AND FIVE – THE BONDS FOR CONSERVATION, TRANSPORTATION AND WATER SYSTEMS – ALL PASSED.

AND IN BRIDGTON, OBAMA GOT 1,501 VOTES WHILE ROMNEY GOT 1,199, KING GOT 1,444 VOTES TO 887 FOR SUMMERS AND 331 FOR DILL, DEMOCRATIC U.S. REP. CHELLIE PINGREE GOT 1,607 VOTES WHILE REPUBLICAN JONATHAN COURTNEY GOT 1,106 VOTES. FOR STATE SENATE DISTRICT 13 HAMPER GOT 1,318 VOTES WHILE DENNISE WHITLEY GOT 1,267 VOTES. FOR DISTRICT 98 STATE REP. DEMOCRAT LISA VILLA GOT 1,406 VOTES AND REPUBLICAN ROXANNA HAGERMAN GOT 1,314 VOTES. JOHN O’BRIEN GOT 2,081 VOTES FOR REGISTER OF PROBATE. ON THE QUESTIONS – ONE PASSED, TWO WAS DEFEATED, AND THREE, FOUR AND FIVE PASSED. ON THE ORDINANCE QUESTIONS, THE SERVICEMEMBER QUESTION PASSED AND THE QUESTION TO AMEND THE SHORELINE ZONING ORDINANCE WAS DEFEATED BY A NEARLY 2-TO-1 MARGIN. A TOTAL OF 2,807 VOTES WERE CAST.
