VETERANS DAY ACTIVITIES IN VALLEY

NORTH CONWAY AMERICAN LEGION POST 95 AND CONWAY AMERICAN LEGION POST 46 ARE TEAMING UP FOR VETERANS DAY EVENTS SUNDAY.

A CHURCH SERVICE OPEN TO ALL WILL BE HELD AT 10 A.M. AT THE FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, CONGREGATIONAL ON ROUTE 16 IN NORTH CONWAY, WITH THE REV. GIL HEALY, AN AIR FORCE VETERAN, OFFICIATING.

THE CHURCH BELLS WILL RING AT 11 A.M. TO RECOGNIZE THE ARMISTICE – THE 11TH HOUR OF THE 11TH DAY OF THE 11TH MONTH.

THE PARADE WILL START FROM THE PARKING LOT OF THE JOHN FULLER SCHOOL IN NORTH CONWAY AROUND NOON SUNDAY AND PROCEED DOWN MAIN ST. TO SCHOULER PARK. THE PARADE WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A CEREMONY AT THE PARK THAT WILL INCLUDE PRAYERS, THE BURNING OF RECORDS, FLAG FOLDING AND A 21-GUN SALUTE.

FOLLOWING THE CEREMONY, WREATHS WILL BE PLACED AT KENNETT MIDDLE SCHOOL AND KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL AND A LUNCH FOR VETERANS WILL FOLLOW AT KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL.

VFW POST 8270 AND LADIES AUXILIARY WILL HOST A SUPPER, SILENT AUCTION, RAFFLE AND MUSIC AT THE WHITE LAKE INN AND TAVERN IN TAMWORTH STARTING SUNDAY AT 4 P.M. THE COST IS $10 FOR ADULTS, $5 FOR CHILDREN 9 AND UNDER. THE EVENT BENEFITS VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES – ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. THE POST IS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS. VETERAN ORGANIZATIONS IN WESTERN MAINE – INCLUDING THE TOWNS OF LOVELL, FRYEBURG AND HARRISON – WILL ALSO HOLD EVENTS SUNDAY.
