VIGIL HELD FOR MISSING TEEN

by Christian Mower on October 28, 2013

A PASTOR WHO LED A CROWD IN PRAYER IN NORTH CONWAY SATURDAY NIGHT QUOTED FROM THE BOOK OF PROVERBS IN THE BIBLE.

CONWAY POLICE LT. CHRIS PERLEY SAYS ABOUT 500 PEOPLE SHOWED UP FOR THE FLASHLIGHT VIGIL IN SCHOULER PARK TO SUPPORT THE FAMILY OF 15-YEAR-OLD NORTH CONWAY TEEN ABIGAIL HERNANDEZ – AND SYMBOLICALLY LIGHT THE PATH FOR HER SAFE RETURN.

HERNANDEZ WAS LAST SEEN OCT. 9, 2013 LEAVING KENNETT HIGH SCHOOL AND IT’S BELIEVED SHE WAS WALKING NORTH TOWARD HER HOME ON VILLAGE WAY.

SATURDAY’S VIGIL WAS ORGANIZED BY A POPULAR VALLEY-BASED RUNNING GROUP, THE WHITE MOUNTAIN MILERS. ABIGAIL’S OLDER SISTER SARAH HAS RUN WITH THE GROUP BEFORE AND HER MOTHER ZENYA HAS SUPPORTED THE GROUP’S EVENTS.

PASTOR ANNE ROSER QUOTED PROVERBS 4:18 AS SHE FOCUSED ON THE CONCEPT OF THE LIGHT AND TOLD THE CROWD “PEOPLE OF THIS VALLEY BELIEVE IN HELPING EACH OTHER, SUPPORTING ONE ANOTHER, CARING FOR ONE ANOTHER’S BURDENS AND DOING THE RIGHT THING. THE LIGHT SHINES AS YOU LISTEN TO ONE ANOTHER AND LIVE IN HOPE THAT ANSWERS WILL COME.”

ROSER ASKED FOR A MOMENT OF SILENCE AND THEN LED THE CROWD IN PRAYER, ASKING GOD TO CONTINUE TO BRING “STRENGTH, WISDOM AND RESILIENCE TO THE HERNANDEZ FAMILY, TO ABIGAIL, AND ALL WHO SEARCH FOR HER.”

FOLLOWING THOSE REMARKS AND OTHERS, MILERS’ PRESIDENT PAUL KIRSCH SAID ANYONE WAS WELCOME TO TAKE A SHORT WALK ON A NEARBY PATH LIGHTED BY FLASHLIGHTS.

PERLEY SAYS A VOLUNTEER GROUP OF ABOUT 60 VOLUNTEERS FROM AN ORGANIZATION CALLED “MISSION FOR THE MISSING” – THAT INCLUDES AT LEAST ONE FORMER LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER FROM MASS. – SEARCHED IN NORTH CONWAY OVER THE WEEKEND – BUT NO ONE IN THE GROUP REPORTED ANY SIGNIFICANT FINDINGS. PERLEY SAYS THE GROUP’S EFFORT IS APPRECIATED AND HE ASKS EVERYONE TO REMAIN VIGILANT AND ON THE LOOKOUT FOR ABIGAIL.

THE FBI IS OFFERING AN AWARD OF UP TO $20,000 FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO ABIGAIL’S RECOVERY OR THE IDENTIFICATION, ARREST AND CONVICTION OF ANY PERSON OR PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR HER DISAPPEARANCE.

ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE CASE IS ASKED TO CALL THE TOLL-FREE FBI TIPLINE AT 1-800-CALL-FBI OR CONWAY POLICE AT (603) 356-5715.
