THE CHIEF OF THE WOLFEBORO FIRE RESCUE DEPT. IS URGING PROPERTY OWNERS TO USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN DISPOSING OF OILY RAGS USED FOR HOUSEHOLD PROJECTS AFTER A FIRE MONDAY NIGHT CAUSED MODERATE DAMAGE TO A RESIDENTIAL GARAGE IN WOLFEBORO.

BUTCH MORRILL SAYS HIS CREWS RESPONDED TO THE METZGER RESIDENCE ON BERRYWOOD DR. ABOUT 10 P.M. AND DISCOVERED A FIRE IN THE CORNER OF THE GARAGE THAT HAD BEEN KNOCKED DOWN BY THE HOMEOWNER USING AN EXTINGUISHER.

FIREFIGHTERS COMPLETED PUTTING OUT THE FIRE AND OVERHAULED IT. IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE ACCIDE

NO ONE WAS HURT AND THE HOMEOWNER WAS ABLE TO MOVE SOME VEHICLES AWAY FROM THE FIRE.

WOLFEBORO POLICE AND STEWARTS AMBULANCE ASSISTED.

MORRILL SAYS OILY RAGS SHOULD BE LAID FLAT OUTSIDE AND AIR DRIED – AND THEN STORED OUTSIDE PRIOR TO DISPOSAL IN A SEALED METAL CAN FULL OF WATER.
