WOMAN PROVIDES DESCRIPTIONS IN OSSIPEE HOME INVASION

AN OSSIPEE POLICE OFFICER SAYS AN ELDERLY WOMAN APPARENTLY CAUGHT TWO SUSPECTS OFF GUARD TUESDAY MORNING AS THEY ENTERED HER HOME – AND THEN PROVIDED POLICE WITH A DESCRIPTION OF THE VEHICLE THE SUSPECTS ALLEGEDLY USED TO ESCAPE.

DETECTIVE SGT. BOB KING SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A HOME ON CHICKVILLE ROAD SHORTLY AFTER 10 A.M. AFTER THE APPARENT HOME INVASION/BURGLARY ATTEMPT.

TWO YOUNG SUSPECTS APPARENTLY RAN OUT OF THE HOUSE AFTER BEING DISCOVERED AND WERE REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN PICKED UP BY SOMEONE DRIVING AN OLDER MODEL WHITE CROWN VICTORIA. THE HOMEOWNER WASN’T HURT.

BASED ON THE DESCRIPTION PROVIDED BY THE WOMAN, POLICE ISSUED AN ALERT FOR THE CAR AND A CARROLL COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY PULLED IT OVER ON ROUTE 16 WHILE NORTHBOUND IN TAMWORTH AROUND 11 A.M. NEAR THE OFFICES OF NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE POLICE TROOP E.

OSSIPEE POLICE WENT TO THE SCENE OF THE TRAFFIC STOP AND KING SAYS 20-YEAR-OLD JASON SHACKFORD OF TUFTONBORO WAS THE DRIVER. THE TWO PASSENGERS IN THE CAR ARE IDENTIFIED AS 20-YEAR-OLD KEITH HUTCHINGS OF MADISON AND 18-YEAR-OLD BRANDON HARTFORD OF CONWAY.

ALL THREE MEN WERE ARRESTED AND ARE BEING HELD AT THE CARROLL COUNTY JAIL ON $100,000 CASH BAIL EACH, PENDING THEIR ARRAIGNMENT IN DISTRICT COURT IN OSSIPEE WEDNESDAY.

KING SAYS THE SUSPECTS ARE FRIENDS AND HAVE A HISTORY WITH HIS DEPARTMENT FOR ALLEGEDLY BEING INVOLVED IN THE SAME TYPE OF ACTIVITY. KING SAYS THE TRIO MAY HAVE CASED THE HOUSE BEFORE ENTERING IT.

THE CAR HAS BEEN IMPOUNDED AND POLICE WILL APPLY FOR A WARRANT TO SEARCH IT.
