Leo Greene and his Sandwich Parks and Recreation Department hosted the first annual Sandwich Music and Arts Festival – “SMARTfest” – onAugust 18th on the Sandwich Fairgrounds stage and surrounding area. This year the headliner was Marty Dread, Hawaii’s reggae ambassador, who was supported by Royal Hammer, a reggae soul band from the Portland area. Royal Hammer features members of popular Portland bands Rustic Overtones and Lettuce. Also on stage was special guest and Sandwich’s own rock band the Harley Llamas. There were food vendors as well as artists with demonstrations and items for purchase. Palm reading, a blacksmith, a glassblower, and tie dye artists were all there to round out the family fun. It was a was a brand new idea for the Sandwich Summertime, and it went amazingly well. Stay tuned for Smartfest 2011!!
